It’s here! My new toy!

I’d read that pre-owned lenses are cheaper in Japan, so I started reading and set my eyes on the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 DX. This lens was being sold for over SGD300 used, and Map Camera was selling it for about SGD275. Then I stumbled upon Amazon, which was selling it for USD199. Add in shipping (direct to Singapore) for USD18+, and the camera would cost the same, but brand new!

Though my current Nikon 50mm f/1.8 AF-D is serving me well, the long focal length can be inconvenient some times, especially for shooting candids. I thought the 35mm would be useful when Little Mochi comes along too, so I quickly placed an order for it, hoping to get it before our Tokyo trip.

Amazon under-promises and over-delivers, because shipping was estimated at two to three weeks, so when I ordered on 9th April, I was prepared for the lens to arrive after we left for Tokyo. But surprise, surprise! I got the lens today!

The photo below was taken with the 35mm @ ISO800. The lens is really good! It focuses really fast (compared with the 50mm) and is very, very sharp. I’m very pleased with the lens!

New York withdrawal – Anthropologie

One of the places I miss most is Anthropologie.

When I saw the store along 5th Aveunue that fateful night, surrounded by lots of pretty Chirsitmas-y lights and people singing along to Christmas carols, ahhhhh it was magical!

I’ve always been a fan of Anthropologie but unfortunately they don’t ship to SG. So when I went to New York I know I *must* make a trip down. It wasn’t hard to find!

The store’s GORGEOUS. They put in lots of effort in decorating the store every season. The thigns they sell are all so pretty, makesme want to buy everything!

Apparently that’s what lots of New Yorkers think too, cos the store was filled with happy shoppers.

I want to go back to New York so bad… so very, very bad. I hope we can go again this December.

1 month notice, and something pretty exciting…

So, it’s officially 1 month away to the end of my stint here. I can’t wait for a new chapter to begin, but April is literally crawling as I speak. I can’t see the end of the line as yet. Work continues to pour in even as I’m trying to clear the load. I kind of expected this, but it’s getting so tiring. Jon’s been very supportive of me, something I’m really appreciative of. Thanks Dear

I’ve also received 2 unofficial job offers. I’ve my mind set on one of them, hopefully I’ll get it!

On another (exciting) note, I’ve started taking supplements to better prep myself for the very big ‘project’ we’re undertaking. Hopefully there’ll really be a Little Mochi!

Dinner with Mommy

Brought Mommy out for a nice dinner, to celebrate me having a nice (deserving) bonus. I’m glad she enjoyed the food. I had fun bringing her around in The Better Toy Store. She loves toys. Sometimes I look at my Mom and wonder how it had been like for her when I was young. Friends around me are beginning to have children, looking at how much they love their kids made me realize that Hey, my Mom was like them too. This made me appreciate time spent with my Mom even more.

The Woman in Black…

So the other day, we decided to go on a date and caught a Daniel Radcliff show, The Woman in Black.

Honestly we are both scaredy-cats and we jump at the slightest BOO! Jon was hesitant but hey, I thought, how bad can it be. It’s the Harry Potter guy Daniel Radcliff. It’ll problably remind us of Harry Potter so not that scary!

I was wrong.

This show is one of the scariest horror shows I’ve watched. I don’t know which are the elements that creeped me out, but it’s really frightening. To prove my point, a couple walked out of the cinema halfway through the show, and it was just the build-up of the movie!

We didn’t scream, but that’s only because we were frozen in fright. Later that night, I made Jon go to the toilet with me and stand guard outside the door, just in case the Woman in Black pops out…

I’m also very impressed with Daniel Radcliffe. His acting was convincing and at no point was I reminded of Harry Potter, only his accent.

I’m really looking forward to this coming Holidays. Gonna bring Mom to Bangkok for some rest and relaxation!
