It’s here! My new toy!

I’d read that pre-owned lenses are cheaper in Japan, so I started reading and set my eyes on the Nikon 35mm f/1.8 DX. This lens was being sold for over SGD300 used, and Map Camera was selling it for about SGD275. Then I stumbled upon Amazon, which was selling it for USD199. Add in shipping (direct to Singapore) for USD18+, and the camera would cost the same, but brand new!

Though my current Nikon 50mm f/1.8 AF-D is serving me well, the long focal length can be inconvenient some times, especially for shooting candids. I thought the 35mm would be useful when Little Mochi comes along too, so I quickly placed an order for it, hoping to get it before our Tokyo trip.

Amazon under-promises and over-delivers, because shipping was estimated at two to three weeks, so when I ordered on 9th April, I was prepared for the lens to arrive after we left for Tokyo. But surprise, surprise! I got the lens today!

The photo below was taken with the 35mm @ ISO800. The lens is really good! It focuses really fast (compared with the 50mm) and is very, very sharp. I’m very pleased with the lens!

Happy Teacher’s Day to me!

I know I’ve always complained about the heavy workload, the naughty children, the policies etc but honestly I can’t think of any other job I’ll want to do. I’m someone who needs variety in my job from time to time, and I love children. I love being around children. Being able to teach and help the children as they grow up enriches me. I know I’ll probably not get this level of satisfaction from other jobs. That said, I do wish on administrative levels, the burden for teachers will reduce!

I thoroughly  enjoyed yesterday’s celebrations in school. The concert was entertaining as usual. One meorable moment, when the Pri 2 Can-Can dancers lifted their skirts and kicked their legs high, the children shrieked and laughed, covering their eyes. One boy even came to my colleague and said solemnly, ” I saw her underwear”.  Oh they’re so cute sometimes.

Last night’s Teacher’s Day dinner was really fun. The theme Bollywood meant everyone was colourful and glittery. Many colleagues complimented me on my Anarkali Suit, I love my suit as well! Those who wore sarees were beautiful. They were glittering as they walked around the room. Hopfully I’ll get to own one beautiful glittery sari one day! Though I’ve no idea where I’m going to wear it to.

I finally have an iPhone 4! Dear Jon got it for me as my HTC is halfway dead. A little sad the HTC couldn’t last, but I’m not complaining! I now see the hype about the iPhone. It’s so…. short of a better word, FUN! I’m enjoying the apps and games. In fact, I like one of the apps Awesome Note so much, I bought it.

Awesome Notes basically does almost everything I want it to do. I want to jot notes, set reminders, have a To-Do list that I can check off, save photos of places that I’ve been to and of cos it has to be simple to use.

Unfortuantely when I browsed the apps, more often than not they do only one task, at most 2. Hence when I found Awesome Note can do so many things for me, I bought it. Small price to pay for the huge convenience it brought me! I’m still exploring the program, but so far I’m very satisfied with it. The folder colours and icons are also customisable.

Now I’m waiting for Jon to get his iPhone 5, then we can Bump each other!
